Back To Basics

Back To Basics

By Pastor Jaco Mostert 22 July 2021

Due to this time that we are living in, we’ll have to get back to basics a lot. Basics are the foundation and the things we need to keep in place all the time. Proverbs 3: 5 - 6 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Make a point out of it to forsake your understanding, and to trust the Lord with ALL your heart, knowing He will make your paths straight. Be aware that people can trust the Lord with only half of their heart as well, but be the one to trust Him fully! Hebrews 11: 1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. See that without hope there can not be faith. If you understand what God’s will is, that becomes your hope - That God will do what He says. First know what God wants for me - Only good things. This is our hope. Knowing this gives us something to believe for. The faith part is your title-deed. Don’t lose your faith. Don’t have faith in your faith; have faith in God. Have faith in the Word of God, knowing that He will do what He says. We don’t know how, and we should not care how - We should only hold on to His Word. Speak what He says. Sow and know you will reap. Childlike faith doesn’t care about the “How?” , childlike faith just believes. Know that His Word is yes and Amen! James 1: 2 - 4 Consider it nothing but joy, my [b]brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. 3 Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing. I’m sure many will agree that life just has a way of developing us. The stuff that we go through prepares us for the next thing we should do. We are always in the development stage. Life is there to transform you, making you into a better person, lacking nothing. Be encouraged and understand that God knows exactly where we are and what we need, and what development we need. If we tap into His process, things go a lot faster than what it can if we resist some the requirements of the process. It’s like a tree being planted by a river. Those trees grow a lot faster than a tree that’s in the desert. Stay close to the stream, stay close to the Word of God and you will develop and become strong. Psalm 119: 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep and honor Your word [with loving obedience]. David says that before he yielded to the Word of God, he was afflicted. After the affliction, he learned about obedience to the Word of God, and now knows He is good and does good. (verse 68) Trouble/affliction has a way of getting us on our knees. It has a way to humble us. Hebrews 5: 8 Although He was a Son [who had never been disobedient to the Father], He learned [active, special] obedience through what He suffered.  Even Jesus learned His obedience through what He suffered. He grew by His sufferings. John 6: 67 - 68  So Jesus said to the twelve [disciples], “You do not want to leave too, do you?” 68 Simon Peter answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You [alone] have the words of eternal life [you are our only hope].  Why would we leave Jesus if we know who He is and what He is about? Do you know Him like this? Does your strength come from Him? Is He your hope?
