Distorted mind-sets(Rebellion)

Distorted mind-sets(Rebellion)

By Pastor Jaco Mostert 29 August 2022

Romans 12: 2

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

We have a conscious mind, and a subconscious mind. Whereby both must be renewed. We will always look for the root as to why people think a certain way; how the way they think formed. Our subconscious mind has an autopilot; it’s our auto response.

Today we will talk about how some people respond to authority based on their auto – settings in the mind. These things are created while growing up.  This will be YOUR truth; what you think is true.

Proverbs 23: 7

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

If you believe certain things about authority and spend long seasons of abuse under authority, you could have a problem with rebellion in some sort of way. These things go so deep, that a person sometimes can really not see that they do have a problem with authority. This problem can even make you do the opposite of what God says. You will automatically go the other way.

So, we must be open hearted today regarding this and say “God if I have this, please show me, I want it then gone. I don’t want to end up in rebellion towards God, and authority.”

This mindset comes in forms of thoughts like “I can do it myself; my way”. If there is a setting like that, you are going to have a hard time to accept guidance from people.

Many who were abused by their fathers, won’t feel safe when there is a spiritual father figure/mentor. I have found in sessions that it’s better for people that’s more like brothers or sisters to council them, than a father figure.

These settings come like a muscle comes – if you only train your bicep the whole time, that is what will appear. If you were in an abusive situation with authority, you will train your mind and develop skills to get through it and combat the abuse. It forms naturally. These things connect with conflict.

People with this problem is also very free spirited. No one will tell them where to be and what to do. If people try and do this to them, they leave the place/people. Every thing seems like control to the person. These things also jump into our relationship with God; even though you don’t want it to, the setting will do it. So they end up not putting the Word of God up as a spiritual law, but rather just an opinion.
